FIRST ALERT: Possible strong to severe storms tomorrow afternoon and evening

(Source: WBRC weather)

FIRST ALERT FOR STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS TOMORROW: An energetic storm system impacting Texas this morning will be impacting our area later tomorrow. The Storm Prediction Center has the far northwest corner of the state in a rare moderate risk for severe weather for tomorrow. We’re expecting another line of rain and storms to increase in intensity later today across the Mississippi River Valley. This line is expected to weaken overnight and then we will see redevelopment closer to our area tomorrow. Be on the lookout for the possibility of scattered/discrete storms after lunchtime to the far west. The primary risk for tornadoes will be over our far west and northwest counties including Lamar, Fayette, Marion, Winston, Walker, and Pickens. The tornado risk should decrease as the storms move further east. In addition, there will be a risk of damaging straight-line winds and hail. We could see a trailing line of rain and storms tomorrow night as the front moves through, with improving weather on Friday. Stay weather aware and be sure to check the WBRC First Alert Weather App for frequent updates.

WARMER TODAY: Today is going to be one of the nicer days of the week, with a mixture of clouds and sunshine. A stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out in the afternoon, especially east and northeast. We’re off to a comfortable start this morning; however, it is going to feel hot this afternoon! Highs today will be in the 80s, with lows in the 60s. We could see some patchy fog early on south of I-20 where we had some rain yesterday.

THE WEEKEND: Right now Saturday is looking like a gorgeous day, with lots of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s. Sunday also looks dry, although we may see lots of clouds during the afternoon and evening. Another big rainmaker will be impacting our area early next week. I’m expecting mostly cloudy weather with rain and thunder likely on Monday. This system may linger into part of the day on Tuesday. Be sure to join me for continuing updates on WBRC Good Day Alabama.
